Four Common Types Of Residential Fences

by Grace Motley

There are a wide variety of residential fences that you can choose from, ranging from simple wooden fences with classic designs to privacy walls that are made from manufactured materials, such as vinyl. Knowing your choices will help you pick the best fence to meet your needs. Below are four common types of residential fences you'll see in your neighborhood and throughout the world.

Chain Link

If you're seeking a non-pretentious, semi-rugged looking fence, then a chain link fence may be perfect for you. It's ideal if you have pets that you want to keep in your yard. It's also durable and can withstand tough weather conditions more easily than fences made from plastics. For instance, if you have children that like to play in the yard, they can easily fracture plastic fences with baseballs or larger toys. Chain link fences also bend and sway somewhat, helping stand-up to gusty winds and harsh winter weather conditions.

Post & Rail

For a classic looking fence, you can go with a post and rail design. These types of fences are good for long stretches of property and have a higher aesthetic value than normal fences. They are reminiscent of the old west and southwestern style. Post and rail fences, though, are susceptible to terminates if they're made from wood, which they normally are. A fencing contractor like Everlasting Fence is normally needed to fix these types of fences, if they enter a state of disrepair.

Ornamental

If you're looking to impress passersby and keep one step ahead of your neighbors, you can go with an ornamental fence. These can be made from materials such as steel and iron, which are durable. The designs can range from contemporary to old Victorian, depending on your tastes. These types of fences can be more expensive relative to chain link fences and privacy walls, but if you can afford it then this type of fencing is right for you.

Privacy

Privacy walls can be made from a variety of materials, including vinyl and wood. They do not come with gaps in between the different layers of fencing, giving you and your loved ones the privacy you deserve, when you're in your home. If you live in a crowded area, then a privacy fence may be just what you need to make your home more enjoyable and beautiful.

There are a number of different fences on the market you can use to improve the aesthetic of your yard and property, but not all come with the same benefits. The four aforementioned fences work well in most yards, but the final decision is up to you.
