2 Things To Check On Your Washer And Dryer

by Grace Motley

A washer and dryer isn't a necessity, but it sure feels that way sometimes. If your washer or dryer has stopped working, then you want to make sure that you get them fixed as soon as possible. You will want to have an appliance repair technician come out and get it working again, but it may be a few days before they can get out to your house, which means you might want to try to get it working again on your own. There is some troubleshooting that you can do on your own that could help you get the appliance working again. So, what can you do?

Check the Power

The first thing you need to do is check the power. Checking to make sure that the appliance has power means that you are going to check out a few different things. The first thing that you are going to check is to see if everything is plugged in. You want to make sure that you actually touch the plug and the outlet to make sure they are secure because the appliance can look like it's plugged in when the plug is loose. A loose plug means that no power is getting to your washer or dryer. You also want to check to make sure that the power cords aren't frayed or damaged. A damaged power cord will not only stop power from getting to the unit, but it can also be dangerous, so you should just leave it alone and wait for the professionals to handle it. Then you also want to check out the circuit breaker and make sure that the circuit is on.

Check the Door Sensors

Another thing that you need to check is whether or not the door lock sensors are working. These sensors will keep the washer or dryer from working if the door isn't all the way closed. Quite often, the sensor just gets blocked, so you can just clean it off and try to see if that makes your washer or dryer work again. Depending on where the sensor is, you may need to make sure that the hole the sensor is in is empty so there is nothing that blocks it from making full and complete contact.
